Rice price today September 14: Plunging in the international market

Vietnam's rice export prices continue to fall sharply, with 5% broken fragrant rice falling another $10/ton. The domestic market remains stable, with transactions at a standstill.

The agricultural market on September 14 recorded a sharp decrease in export rice prices, especially in the 5% broken fragrant rice segment with a decrease of 10 USD/ton. Over the past week, export rice prices have decreased from 10 to 38 USD/ton, creating great pressure on the market. In contrast, domestic rice prices in the Mekong Delta generally remained stable, with slow trading.

For rice, many varieties keep the same price as last weekend.

In An Giang , the price of IR 50404 rice (fresh) fluctuates from 5,000 - 5,100 VND/kg; OM 18 from 5,600 - 5,800 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 in the range of 5,700 - 5,800 VND/kg; OM 5451 is stable at 5,900 - 6,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa 9 remains at 6,000 - 6,200 VND/kg; OM 308 remains at 5,700 - 5,900 VND/kg.

Provinces such as Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho and Ca Mau recorded few transactions of Autumn-Winter rice, farmers offered stable prices but traders bought sparingly.

Rice and by-product prices today September 14

For rice, domestic prices remained almost unchanged.

Raw rice OM 380 fluctuates at 7,450 - 7,550 VND/kg; OM 18 at 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg; IR 504 and CL 555 both maintain around 7,700 - 7,900 VND/kg. Finished rice OM 380 is traded at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg, while IR 504 is at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.

In retail markets, Nang Nhen rice is still the highest at VND28,000/kg, while regular rice is at VND13,000-14,000/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Jasmine, Huong Lai, Nang Hoa and Soc rice still maintain stable prices.

By-products fluctuated slightly, with OM 504 broken rice decreasing by VND100/kg to VND7,200-7,400/kg, while bran fluctuated between VND8,000-9,000/kg. Supply at warehouses in An Giang and Sa Dec tended to decrease, slowing down transactions, but prices remained stable.

Export markets

In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continued to fall. 5% broken fragrant rice is currently at 440-450 USD/ton, down 10 USD/ton. Jasmine rice remains at 494-498 USD/ton, while 100% broken rice fluctuates at 319-323 USD/ton.

This is a fairly strong decrease in the context of the international market being affected by oversupply and price competition.
