In Can Tho City and many provinces such as Hau Giang, Vinh Long, An Giang, Ben Tre... farmers sell eels in bulk to traders at 86,000 - 90,000 VND/kg. Large selected eels (yellow eels, size 4 - 5 eels/kg) are sold by farmers at about 95,000 - 100,000 VND/kg.

Farmers in Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province said that the price of eel meat has increased due to increased demand and decreased supply, as well as because people have recently reduced their farming due to lack of profit.

Durian price today : Musang King durian price drops sharply

Each kilogram of Musang King durian at the garden has decreased by nearly half compared to last year, to 80,000 VND.

Musang King – the world’s best durian variety – was once sold in Vietnam for 1.5 million VND per kilogram when imported from Malaysia. In recent years, thanks to Vietnamese people cultivating it themselves, the price has dropped to a few hundred thousand VND per kilogram. This year, the price of this durian has continued to fall.

A farmer in Dak Lak owns 100 7-year-old durian trees, which yield 2.5 tons of small fruits weighing 1.2-2.5 kg. This yield is 5-6 times lower than that of Monthong and Ri 6 durian varieties. They sell the whole garden for only 80,000 VND per kg, down 46% compared to last year. Meanwhile, Monthong is priced at 95,000 VND by traders.

A garden owner in Tien Giang also said that the profit from Musang King is far less than Ri 6 due to low yield and sharp price drop. The cost of care is high, each tree yields about 50 kg, while Ri 6 reaches 100-250 kg.

Many growers in Dak Lak, Can Tho, and Tien Giang are also facing similar difficulties. They plan to stop growing this durian variety and switch to Monthong and Ri 6 after losing billions of dong. The retail price of Musang King durian has also decreased by half compared to last year. Mini fruits weighing 1-1.2 kg are sold for 120,000-140,000 VND each. Grade A products (2.7 compartments, weighing 2.5-4 kg) are about 150,000-180,000 VND per kg, while the peeled type is 380,000-400,000 VND per kg. Explaining why the durian variety, once considered the most expensive in the world, has now fallen sharply in price, traders in Ho Chi Minh City said that it is partly due to the uneven quality of this variety, with many fruits being mushy and unripe due to the rain.
