Second Division tightens regulations on using naturalized players

On the morning of March 17, the draw ceremony for the 2025 National Second Division tournament took place at the VFF headquarters. Accordingly, the tournament's regulations on registering naturalized players were adjusted to be consistent with the competition system of the First Division, V.League.

Instead of being free to register naturalized players (Vietnamese players of foreign origin), football teams are only allowed to select a maximum of 1 player. However, it is likely that no team in the league will register naturalized stars because the professional quality of this group of players is declining. In addition, according to regulations from VFF, football teams are also allowed to register 2 more foreign players of Vietnamese origin (overseas Vietnamese players).

Second Division teams are only allowed to register 1 naturalized player.

Speaking at the drawing ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha said: “ The National Second Division Football Tournament is an important playground, contributing to maintaining and developing the football movement in localities, and at the same time is a launching pad for talented young players to compete, accumulate experience and gradually assert themselves on the path to strive to advance to the professional level .”

The 2025 National Second Division Football Tournament will kick off the first leg from April 11 to May 13, 2025 and the second leg from May 21 to June 22, 2025. This year's tournament will feature 15 teams across the country, an increase of 1 team compared to the 2024 season. This partly demonstrates the stable development of the tournament in the national non-professional football system.

This year's tournament will continue to take place in a two-legged round-robin format (home and away) to calculate points and rankings, thereby determining the four best teams to qualify for the 2025/26 National First Division. At the same time, the team with the lowest performance in the two groups will be relegated.

According to the draw results, group A includes the following clubs: Hanoi Youth, Hoai Duc, PVF-CAND Youth, PVF, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh. Group B includes the following teams: Kon Tum , SHB Da Nang Youth, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, Gia Dinh, Van Hien University.
