On the afternoon of September 30, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the list of 23 players for the Vietnam U23 team. Along with the national team, the Vietnam U23 team will also train in October. This activity is part of the VFF's preparation plan for the Vietnam U23 team towards the 33rd SEA Games.
In the list, Vadim Nguyen is the only new player of U23 Vietnam. He is a Vietnamese-Russian player, born in 2005, currently playing for the Da Nang first team in V-League 2025 - 2026.
Vadim Nguyen is 1m75 tall and can play as a central midfielder and winger. This season he played 3 matches in the V-League and 1 match in the National Cup, all of which came from the bench.
With a total playing time of less than 90 minutes, Vadim has not shown much, so being called up to U23 Vietnam is almost just a "test" purpose.
With the appearance of Vadim Nguyen, U23 Vietnam now has 3 overseas Vietnamese players. The remaining 2 are Tran Thanh Trung (Bulgaria) and Viktor Le (Russia).
After a number of excellent players were called up to the national team, the U23 Vietnam roster still has notable faces such as Pham Ly Duc, Le Van Thuan, Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Ngoc My or Nguyen Quoc Viet - players who left their mark in the recent U23 Asia qualifying round.
As head coach Kim Sang Sik is leading the Vietnamese team to prepare for two matches against Nepal in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, the training and management of the U23 Vietnam team's training activities continue to be assigned to acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh.
According to plan, the Vietnam U23 team will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center from October 4 to 7, then go to the UAE for training.
Here, U23 Vietnam will have two friendly matches with the U23 Qatar team, which are considered to be of very high quality, on October 9 and 13 respectively.
