TPO - On the homepage of the Asia-Pacific Golf Federation, Nguyen Anh Minh, Vietnam's number 1 amateur golfer, shared interesting stories about memorable milestones in his young career: from the 2024 Nomura Cup, the 32nd SEA Games to twice winning the Bonallack Trophy with the Asia-Pacific team.

Nomura Cup 2024 - a historic milestone for Vietnamese golf

The 2024 Nomura Cup (Asia- Pacific Team Championship) at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong has become a golden page in the history of Vietnamese golf. For the first time in history, the Vietnamese golf team won the championship, with a total score of -20.

The pillar of that victory was Nguyen Anh Minh. Competing with great confidence against top golfers, the golfer born in 2007 finished four rounds with a score of 71-67-71-67, achieving a total score of -12, excellently winning the individual championship.

“The Nomura Cup 2024 is definitely one of the most memorable tournaments for me,” Anh Minh shared. “The tournament was held in Vietnam, and I was able to lift the trophy with the national team, and also win the individual championship.”

"It was a really special week. We fought together, overcame all challenges together. Looking back at the training and preparation journey, and seeing the efforts pay off, the moment of lifting the trophy was truly indescribable," Anh Minh recalled.

SEA Games 32 - the first time Vietnamese golf has a medal

If the Nomura Cup is a historic feat, then the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia is the first time Vietnamese golf has stepped onto the regional podium. Le Khanh Hung brought home the precious gold medal, Nguyen Anh Minh won the bronze medal, while the Vietnamese golf team closed the tournament with the silver medal for the team.

“We won all three medals - something unprecedented in history,” Anh Minh proudly said. “That was the week when Vietnamese golf proved to the region that we have good golfers, capable of competing fairly.”

"We almost beat Thailand. Everyone knows Thailand is a golf powerhouse, so getting so close to winning against them is a great source of pride," Anh Minh affirmed.

Bonallack Trophy - courage and maturity

Having twice participated in the Bonallack Trophy (2023 and 2025), Nguyen Anh Minh left the tournament with a victory with the Asia- Pacific team.

In 2023, Anh Minh made history as the first Vietnamese golfer to participate in the tournament. In his debut in Spain, the 2007-born talent played 3 matches, achieving 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss, thereby contributing 1.5 important points to the dramatic 17-15 victory of the Asia-Pacific team over the European team.

“I was the youngest person there, and I was really excited to represent not only Vietnamese golf, but also the Asia-Pacific region,” Anh Minh admitted.

The tension came not only from the prestigious atmosphere of the tournament, but also because the opponents around him were names that he was only familiar with on international television. “They all competed in the US, at a very high level. Even in the Asia-Pacific team, my teammates were all top golfers such as Harrison Crowe - the 2022 AAC champion, Jack Buchanan (Australia), or Yubin Jang (Korea), who have now competed on the Asian Tour and LIV Golf," Anh Minh said.

Amidst such a talented group, the 2007-born boy was both excited and nervous. The pressure gradually dissipated after Anh Minh competed with Joshua Bai (New Zealand) - then the reigning US Junior runner-up - in the opening round. "After that round, I felt calmer. The pressure gradually dissipated, and I gradually felt more comfortable and confident on the field."

By 2025 in Dubai, Anh Minh had matured a lot. He won 2.5 points after 4 matches (2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss), making a great contribution to helping the Asia-Pacific team win the Bonallack Trophy for the 3rd consecutive time.

Minh revealed that before the tournament he was sick, hospitalized for two weeks and did not touch a golf club before going out for about three days. "I still remember the first tee shot in the practice round was only about 280-290 yards, while other golfers hit the green. I thought 'this week is going to be tough'.

"As the days went on, my form improved. My driver got better, my short game got better, and putting saved me that week, which was great. I'm happy for the team to win."

Closing the brilliant memories, Nguyen Anh Minh did not forget to thank his teammates: "I am very grateful to them - wonderful people, excellent golfers - who together made the victory. Fighting alongside them, that is the most special thing."
