Hanoi approved more than 48,600 billion to "green" buses

The Hanoi People's Committee has just approved spending more than VND48,600 billion to implement the "Project to develop a public transport system by buses using electricity and green energy in the city".

The City People's Committee has just issued a Decision approving the "Project to develop a public transport system by bus using electricity and green energy in the city".

Specifically, the Project sets out a plan and roadmap for converting and developing buses using electricity and green energy in the city according to the roadmap approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 876.

The project proposes synchronous solutions to ensure effective implementation of the roadmap for conversion, development and achieving 100% of buses using electricity and green energy by 2035.

Notably, Hanoi will switch to electric buses in 2025. In the 2026-2035 period, the city will convert 50% of its buses to electric buses and 50% to LNG/CNG buses. The total number of vehicles that need to be converted is 2,051. Of which, in 2025, the city will convert 103 electric vehicles (5%); in the 2026-2030 period, 1,813 vehicles (93.4%), including 859 electric vehicles and 851 LNG/CNG vehicles; in the 2031-2025 period, 2,051 vehicles will be completed (100%).

From the beginning of 2025, transport units are implementing procedures to invest in and pilot operation of 5 electric bus routes with 76 vehicles to build norms and unit prices for medium and small capacity electric buses.

In 2025, large diesel buses that have expired depreciation and expired contracts will be converted to large electric buses. The total number of vehicles expected to be converted in 2025 is 103, reaching 5% of the total number of converted vehicles.

From 2026, the city will issue technical and economic norms and full unit prices for electric bus models. Units will implement the replacement of vehicles that have expired their depreciation period (10 years) according to the actual vehicle usage time on each route.

The number of vehicles to be converted is based on the current operating criteria of the route and the daily operating range of the electric bus models currently on the market. The total number of vehicles expected to be converted in the period 2026-2030 is 1,813 vehicles. The conversion rate of vehicles using electricity and green energy by 2030 is expected to reach 93.4% of the total number of converted vehicles.

The total estimated cost of implementing the plan is about 48,625 billion VND. Of which, the city budget is about 35,996 billion VND and enterprises must arrange about 12,629 billion VND.

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, the conversion towards green buses will help attract more people to use public passenger transport services by bus, reduce traffic congestion, traffic accidents, environmental pollution, create a highlight for the city, attract tourists and develop tourism.
