Hai Phong strives to protect and care for children

Currently, the city's child data management system has updated information for about 80% of the total number of children in the area, helping monitoring and intervention become more timely and accurate. In parallel with protection work, the health sector has effectively maintained the expanded immunization program, with the measles vaccination rate reaching over 97%, equivalent to nearly 40,000 children protected from the epidemic. Nutrition care activities have been implemented synchronously for children under 16 years old from poor, near-poor and newly escaped poverty households in 9 districts and 18 communes and wards. More than 14,500 children under 5 years old at risk of micronutrient deficiency have been supplemented with high doses of Vitamin A; nearly 7,850 malnourished or high-risk children have been supplemented with iron. The city aims to reduce the rate of stunting in children under 5 years old from poor, near-poor and newly escaped poverty households to below 32.2% by the end of 2025.

Training and capacity building for specialized staff working on children has been focused on, ensuring skills improvement from the grassroots to the city level. In particular, nearly 47,000 children in special circumstances have received attention and support from the budget and the community, with a total budget of nearly 15 billion VND. The city budget alone has supported more than 5,500 children with nearly 10 billion VND according to resolutions of the City People's Council. In 2025, many practical programs and activities for children will continue to be implemented such as: The program "Joining hands for the poor - leaving no one behind"; supporting education and health care for children; charitable and humanitarian activities; developing child care models; creating playgrounds and safe, healthy environments for children to develop comprehensively.

In the coming time, Hai Phong will continue to implement the Child Protection Program for the period 2021-2025; organize activities on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year; improve capacity for specialized staff; update child data; strengthen communication on skills to prevent violence, abuse, and injuries, towards the goal of all children living in a safe, happy and developing environment.
