The Government has just decided to add two expressways to the Road Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The Prime Minister has just signed a decision approving the adjustment of the Road Network Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. This decision adjusts and supplements a number of contents in Decision No. 1454 dated September 1, 2021.
Accordingly, the Government has added two expressways to the adjusted planning including: Ca Mau - Dat Mui Expressway and Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway.
Adding two expressways to the planning is necessary to help develop the local socio-economy.
The Ca Mau - Dat Mui Expressway has a total length of 90km, starting at Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province, and ending at Ngoc Hien District in this province. This expressway is determined to have a scale of 4 lanes and the investment roadmap before 2030.
The Ministry of Transport said that the addition of this expressway aims to promote the advantages of each socio-economic region, effectively promote the North-South economic corridor, and the Dat Mui and Ca Mau areas are the southernmost part of the country.
Besides, Nam Can port plays an important role in the port system in the Mekong Delta, invested in construction in the sea route arc position of Southeast Asia and has many favorable conditions for expanding trade with countries in the region such as: Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia.
On the other hand, Dat Mui is mentioned as a sacred land in the minds of Vietnamese people and in life, everyone wishes to visit once. This place has a very diverse and rich mangrove ecosystem.
Currently, there is no plan for a highway network to this area, so adding the Ca Mau to Dat Mui route is consistent with the development goals of the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 81/2023 dated January 9, 2023.
The North-South Expressway project has been planned from Huu Nghi border gate to Ca Mau city, stretching from North to South. However, the section from Ca Mau city to Dat Mui has not been planned for the expressway. In the previous phase, the route was also considered according to the opinions of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province and a number of related agencies, but due to demand and resources, the route has not been included in the planning.
Ensuring the North-South route connection by expressway system from Huu Nghi border gate to Dat Mui is necessary to ensure synchronization and promote the country's socio-economic development.
For the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway, the new planning determines the scale of 4 lanes with a total length of 136km. The starting point is at the North - South expressway in the East, in Duc Pho district, Quang Ngai province. The ending point is at the North - South expressway in the West, in Kon Tum city, Kon Tum province. Regarding the roadmap, the Government determined that this expressway will be invested before 2030.
The Ministry of Transport said that the addition of the new route is in line with the development goals of the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the National Assembly in Resolution No. 81/2023 dated January 9, 2023.
Traffic forecast to 2030 is about 24,030 PCU/day and night and to 2050 is about 41,342 PCU/day and night. Therefore, it is necessary to form a high-speed route in the period up to 2030 and plan 4 lanes to ensure future transportation needs when urban and tourist development planning areas on the route are formed.
In addition, according to the road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1454, the area has two expressways in the East-West direction, namely Quang Nam - Quang Ngai and Quy Nhon - Pleiku - Le Thanh, with a distance of about 50 - 100km.
"The southern area of Quang Ngai connecting to Kon Tum mainly goes through National Highway 24 which is small in scale and has low technical standards, not meeting the connection requirements to develop the potential land fund in the border area of the two provinces, including the Mang Den area. Therefore, considering investing in a connecting expressway in this direction is necessary," said the Ministry of Transport.
