(CLO) Indian airlines and airports have received a total of 999 fake bomb threats from the beginning of this year until November 14, nearly 10 times higher than the whole of 2023.
Responding to parliament on November 28, Indian Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol said: "The recent threats are false and no genuine threat has been detected at any airport/aircraft in India."

Bomb threats against domestic and international flights, mainly made via social media platforms, disrupted travel in the world's fastest-growing aviation market. All were determined to be false.
Mr Mohol said there had been more than 500 bomb threats made in the last two weeks of October alone. As of November 14, 12 people had been arrested in connection with 256 complaints to police about such threats.
The fake bomb threats have prompted India's government and civil aviation authorities to warn of "very strict action".
According to India's Economic Times, the government plans to strengthen security on international flights by deploying more aviation police, who are armed officers in plain clothes.
Airlines IndiGo, Spicejet and Vistara said in their statements that they are working with the authorities to adhere to standard procedures.
