On the morning of June 27, residents of Street 13, Thanh My Loi Ward, saw more than a dozen stone benches placed in front of their houses painted with links to betting websites and the words "bet for fun, earn billions". Many new benches were smeared with black and red paint.

One kilometer away, a series of stone benches in front of the temple gate on Nguyen Xien Street and many houses on Nguyen Van Tang Street were in a similar situation.

According to security cameras, two young men wearing long-sleeved shirts, masks, and helmets used a pre-engraved board to spray paint on a stone bench at dawn and then left. Thanh My Loi Ward Police have received the case for investigation.

At the end of May, about 70 stone benches in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University were painted with soccer betting websites. Authorities caught a 15-year-old teenager spray-painting on the benches. This person said he was hired by online betting websites and paid 30,000 VND per drawing.

The situation of spray painting and defacing public works has appeared frequently recently. Last year, Ba Son Bridge - the new symbol of the city - was also painted haphazardly. On April 30, a train on the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line was also graffitied.

According to Decree 144, spraying paint, writing, or drawing on walls, electric poles, or public works without permission from competent authorities will be subject to a fine of up to VND5 million. The person who draws can also be charged with the crime of destroying or intentionally damaging property as prescribed in Article 178 of the Penal Code.
