The endless debates on social networks have now become a trick, a place to denounce the contradictions and personal conflicts of many famous people.

Virtual network attached to noise

First half of 2024, Vietnamese showbiz witnessed many scandals, from Nam Em's scandalous livestream sessions, Hoang Thuy's accusation of being pressured to leave the judging panel, a series of posts accusing Nam Thu of having an affair with a married man...

Revolving around the private lives of famous people, a series of posts and statements have caused a stir, and have been widely discussed and interacted with by the online community. From there, the people involved have had to face great pressure from public opinion, received a lot of criticism, and were attacked with malicious comments.

Many viewers believe that people in the entertainment industry can post anything on their personal pages, from divorce, teasing colleagues, exposing the dark side of an individual/organization, or even... debt collection.

Looking at the times Vietnamese celebrities “show their backs”, the public realizes that they lose more than they gain. The general result of social media fights is that they do not solve the problem, but the impact from it makes many people suffer.

However, stories about the dark side behind the stage always have great appeal to the public. As MC Thanh Trung once shared with Lao Dong, fame has a great magic, making people pursue it. He believes that fame is honor and prestige, because famous people are not necessarily famous, famous people are not necessarily famous, and there are people who are famous for activities that do not bring value to society.

Social media is a double-edged sword

Along with the benefits and opportunities, there are risks and unpredictable consequences if users lack standards in speech and behavior. The letters and daily online battles of famous people show that building a reputation and love in the hearts of the public is extremely difficult, but maintaining that trust is many times more difficult.

Unforeseen consequences

Speaking to Lao Dong, MSc. Le Dinh Quyet - Lecturer at Hanoi Law University, Senior Advisor at LVI Law Firm - said that acts of slander and distortion on the internet occur frequently, are widespread and difficult to control. Social networks have a great influence in modern life, and are an important tool for sharing information and social communication.

In fact, with just one post, a Vietnamese star can be attacked by the online community, or shocked by ugly behavior.

In addition to personal frustrations that force artists to post their private lives on their personal pages to find solutions, there are still people who take advantage of "drama" to become famous and attract attention.

Social network users participate in these platforms for many different purposes, have the right to post, interact, discuss, spread... This creates the community of social networks but also makes it difficult to control and verify information. According to Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, social network users do not have a correct understanding of the consequences and implications of sharing false, distorted or defamatory information on digital platforms. Many users have taken advantage of the rapid spread of social networks to attract attention, create images, gain personal benefits, and guide public opinion. Experts say that sanctions for violations on social networks are not enough of a deterrent, and the administrative fines are still low compared to the consequences that victims have to bear.

Nowadays, the act of using social networks to slander, Insulting the honor, dignity, and reputation of others will be subject to administrative penalties according to the provisions of Point g, Clause 3, Article 102 of Decree 15/2020/ND-CP with a fine of 10 - 20 million VND. In cases of serious infringement of the honor and dignity of others, criminal liability may be prosecuted under the corresponding crime such as: Crime of humiliating others prescribed in Article 155 of the Penal Code 2015 or Crime of slander prescribed in Article 156 of the Penal Code 2015.
