Nottingham Forest club owner Evangelos Marinakis has decided to terminate his contract with Nuno Santo, after the Portuguese coach revealed that the relationship between the two had broken down.

Apart from the tension between Nuno and new transfer director Edu, the recent disastrous 0-3 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League was the last straw.

A brief statement on the Forest website read: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that Nuno Espirito Santo has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a successful period at the City Ground, in particular his important role in the 2024/25 season which will be remembered forever in the club's history."

Surprisingly, just last June, Nuno Santo signed a 3-year extension with Nottingham Forest.

However, he later admitted to a poor relationship with boss Marinakis in a controversial press conference.

Nuno Santo revealed: " There's no smoke without fire. I know how everything in this team works.

This season, Mr. Marinakis and I have had less direct communication with each other. The relationship has changed and we are not as close as before."

According to the British media, Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers is the leading candidate to replace Nuno Santo. In addition, a few other names are also being targeted such as Ange Postecoglou or Jose Mourinho.
