Coach Klopp hinted at not paying the fine

VnExpressVnExpress20/05/2023

Coach Jurgen Klopp wants the English Football Association (FA) to clarify what it will do with the money, then he will pay a fine of nearly 100,000 USD according to the recent disciplinary decision.

On May 18, the FA banned Klopp from directing two matches and fined him nearly $100,000 (£75,000) for his comments about referee Paul Tierney after the 4-3 win over Tottenham at Anfield on April 30. At that time, the German coach said that Tierney was unfair and unfairly treated Liverpool.

On May 19, at a press conference before the match against Aston Villa in round 37 of the Premier League, Klopp admitted that he was not surprised by the penalty but would talk to the FA again if the purpose of the fine was known. "I want to know where the money will go," he said. "I am willing to pay the fine if there is a legitimate reason. But if the FA keeps this money, we have to talk again."

According to British newspaper Sunsport , the FA refused to respond to Klopp's comments, but normally this non-profit organization will reinvest fines into football.

According to the disciplinary notice on May 18, Klopp was only banned from coaching the match against Aston Villa, and the remaining match is suspended until the end of the 2023-2024 season on the condition that he does not re-offend. Therefore, the 55-year-old coach will return in the final match of the Premier League at Southampton on May 28. Liverpool is currently ranked fifth with 55 points, one point behind Man Utd and four points behind Newcastle.

Klopp admitted he had considered a heavier punishment and would watch the game against Aston Villa from the stands and contact his coaching staff by phone. He also joked that he could shout from the stands to give his players direct instructions. "Nobody would shout like me if Liverpool didn't retreat to defend in the 70th minute or something like that," Klopp said. "I sit far away but if the game doesn't go well, I can make things happen. At least my voice is fine."

Klopp will be allowed to go down to Anfield after the game, where at least four Liverpool players will play their final home game. The Merseyside club announced midweek that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino will leave the club when their contracts expire in June 2023.

Klopp hailed the four players as Liverpool legends, adding: "We love them, but in professional football, nothing lasts forever. There are always moments like that, and they are beautiful moments. A chapter will close and we will start writing a new one. We will not forget them and I will be forever grateful to them."

Klopp confirmed that Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay, Naby Keita, Darwin Nunez are absent due to injury, Roberto Firmino can play and wants to keep two reserve goalkeepers Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher.
