On the evening of September 25, the final round of the 2025 Predator WPA Men's 10-Ball World Championship continued at the Military Zone 7 Gymnasium, Ho Chi Minh City with a series of matches in the Last 32 round. Vietnamese billiards fans focused their eyes on the only home player, Hoang "Sao".
In the first set, Quoc Hoang was a bit off-beat, made many mistakes and quickly lost 1-4. In the second set, the Vietnamese player regained his composure, played more confidently and took advantage of Joshua Filler's mistakes to win 4-2, equalizing the score 1-1.
However, Joshua Filler's mettle continued to be shown in set 3. The former world number 1 8 ball and 9 ball won quickly 4-1. The old scenario repeated itself with Hoang "Sao". Unable to regain his rhythm, combined with his opponent's high form, Duong Quoc Hoang easily lost after 4 sets.
Set 4 was the culmination of psychological warfare and taking advantage of mistakes. The two players chased each other to a 3-3 "hill-hill" position. Quoc Hoang made a mistake on the 2 ball, giving control to Filler. The German player went straight to the 9 ball, but unexpectedly hit a hole, helping Hoang "Sao" win 4-3.
Filler, despite having his wife (also a billiards player and mixed doubles champion) in the stands cheering him on, could not keep his composure. He had two foul shots on the 8 ball before, causing the referee to re-hook the 10 ball and then Filler somehow "ran the ball" and sent the cue ball into the pocket.
Continuous mistakes helped Hoang "Sao" escape when he equalized the score 2-2 after four sets, Filler paid the price in set 5. Vietnam's top player Duong Quoc Hoang was excited with the result so he went straight to a score of 4-1 in set 5 to enter the Last 16 round.
Hoang "Sao"'s next opponent is Aloysius Yapp (Singapore), who had a match that lasted 4 hours and 13 minutes in the qualifying round, leaving many spectators disappointed.
The Last 16 round will take place at 11am on September 26, with the quarter-finals at 4pm the same day.
