Vietnamese students won second prize at the 2024 International Science and Technology Fair

On the morning of May 18, according to information from the Ministry of Education and Training , the Vietnamese student delegation participating in the 2024 International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF 2024) won 1 second prize. This is the highest prize that Vietnamese students have won after 12 years since the National Science and Engineering Fair was held nationwide and participated in the International Science and Engineering Fair from 2013 to present.

The project won the Second Prize in the field of System Software, by two students: Nguyen Le Quoc Bao and Le Tuan Hy, grade 12, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City. This project also received the Fourth Prize (Special Awards) presented by the American Association for Information Technology.

Regeneron ISEF 2024 will be held from May 11-17, 2024 in Los Angeles, California, USA. This year's competition has 67 participating countries with 1,699 high school students and 1,353 competing projects. Of which, there are 1,082 individual projects, 271 collective projects in 21 fields. The Vietnamese delegation participating in this year's competition has 9 projects (1 individual project and 8 collective projects) in 9 fields.

The total number of awards of Regeneron ISEF 2024 (including First, Second, Third, and Fourth prizes) accounts for about 25% of the total number of projects competing. In which, each field has 1 First prize, a few fields with many projects competing are awarded 2 First prizes; 2-3 Second prizes; the rest are Third and Fourth prizes.

Previously, in 2012, before the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 38/2012/TT-BGDDT on regulations for national science and technology competitions for middle and high school students, Vietnam won 1 first prize for a project by students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

ISEF is the largest annual international science and engineering fair for high school students, held since 1950. The competition is an opportunity to connect young future scientists around the world, for students to meet great scientists. Many businesses also come to the Competition to look for innovative ideas.
