During the resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, tens of thousands of Hung Yen’s children went to fight and serve in combat. At the end of the war, the whole province had over 75,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and resistance fighters infected with Agent Orange.

Along with that, the province mobilized resources to build new and repair houses for families of people with meritorious services; searching for and collecting martyrs' remains; renovating, upgrading, and taking care of works honoring martyrs; organizing visits, encouraging, and giving gifts to people with meritorious services and families of martyrs on holidays and New Year...

Currently, the Department   Interior   is regularly providing preferential subsidies to over 75,000 people with meritorious services and their relatives. On every occasion of Lunar New Year and the anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), the province organizes visits and presents gifts from the President , the province, agencies and organizations to people with meritorious services and their relatives; coordinates with sectors to socialize care for people with meritorious services and their families; visits, presents gifts, presents savings books of gratitude, supports housing improvement; cares for health,   nursing   meritorious people...

Every year, the province establishes a delegation to offer incense and pay respect to martyrs at martyr cemeteries in the provinces of Quang Tri, Dien Bien and Tuyen Quang...; provincial leaders, commune and ward leaders organize visits, give gifts, and encourage policy families in the province; select outstanding meritorious people to attend the national meeting of outstanding meritorious people.

The province has paid attention to and restored works commemorating martyrs. In addition to the support from the Central Government and the province, communes and wards have mobilized billions of dong from social resources to build new, repair and upgrade works commemorating martyrs. Thereby, the works   martyrs   day by day more spacious, cleaner and more beautiful, becoming spiritual and cultural works, expressing the feelings and gratitude of today's generation to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the Fatherland.

According to Ms. Dang Ngoc Hanh, Head of the Department of Meritorious People, Department of Home Affairs, one of the meaningful tasks is to build new and repair gratitude houses for families of people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs. At the end of 2024, responding to the call to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide launched by the Prime Minister, the province soon completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs with a total of 1,529 newly built and repaired houses.

Sharing the joy of settling down in a new house, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dang in Tien Hai commune said: I am receiving allowance for resistance fighters infected with Agent Orange. Due to poor health, I have not been able to do heavy work for many years, and my economic situation is extremely difficult. My family's level four house was built a long time ago and is seriously degraded. With the province's support for construction costs, I have a new, solid and safe house.

It can be said that the implementation of preferential policies for people and their families with revolutionary contributions in Hung Yen has achieved good results. People with revolutionary contributions are increasingly better cared for in terms of material and spiritual aspects. The lives of people with revolutionary contributions have been significantly improved.
