In a video posted on Facebook, Mr Orban said: "Over the past year, we have learned that Qatar is a country of primary importance for Europe. The European economy has been significantly compensated by gas from Qatar after the cut in supplies from Russia...

We have agreed on energy cooperation, we will also buy gas from Qatar, having more opportunities is always better."

The Hungarian Prime Minister also said that after the talks, the leaders of this country and Qatar agreed to develop infrastructure and air traffic, cooperate in the fields of communications and agriculture , thereby opening up good prospects for economic cooperation between the two sides.

According to Mr. Orban, Qatar - like Hungary - is ready to mediate Ukraine-Russia.

Hungary's Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that the country is making efforts to diversify its gas supplies, but stressed that in the short term it will not be able to replace Russian energy sources.

In addition to increasing Azerbaijani gas imports, Budapest is interested in increasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies through the Croatian terminal in Krk and developing a gas field in Romania.
