Instructions for vehicle registration after July 1

Implementing the policy of rearranging and reorganizing administrative units at all levels, the Ministry of Public Security has instructed local police on vehicle registration.

The local license plate symbols after the merger include the license plate symbols of the merged localities.

Accordingly, all commune-level police and traffic police departments shall register automobiles, specialized motorbikes, and motorcycles of domestic organizations and individuals with headquarters and residence in provinces and centrally-run cities.

People or organizations that need to register cars, motorbikes, and specialized motorbikes can choose to register their vehicles at the Traffic Police Department or any commune-level police station in the province or city where they reside or have headquarters. For vehicles that are confiscated, they must be registered at the Traffic Police Department.

Particularly for communes where a part of the administrative boundary is separated or merged with many new commune-level administrative units, while waiting for the completion of population data, vehicle registration for organizations and individuals in that commune will be carried out by the Traffic Police Department.

Regarding local license plate symbols after the merger, they include license plate symbols of the merged localities.

License plates with local codes will retain the name issued before after the merger (For example: Hung Yen province: 89, Ninh Binh province: 35, Dong Thap province 66), An Giang province will be given code 68.

After all these license plate symbols are issued, the remaining symbols will be issued from low to high.
