Mobilizing social resources to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources

To develop sustainable aquaculture, Quang Ninh province pays special attention to propaganda activities to raise people's awareness of protecting and regenerating aquatic resources. In particular, functional sectors and localities have effectively mobilized social resources to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources.

On March 28, on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Fisheries Industry's Traditional Day (April 1, 1959 - April 1, 2025), at the main dam of Yen Lap Lake (Minh Thanh Ward, Quang Yen Town), the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Ha Long City, the People's Committee of Quang Yen Town, the Provincial Fisheries Association and Yen Lap Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd. to organize a ceremony to release fish seeds to restore aquatic resources. At the ceremony, delegates and people released 165,000 aquatic seeds, including: tilapia, grass carp, black carp, white carp, bighead carp, bighead carp, common carp, common carp... Of which, the seed source supported by units, businesses and seed trading establishments is over 112,000, accounting for over 70% of the total number of seeds released into the wild.

On the same day, localities in the province also organized the release of fish into the natural environment to regenerate aquatic resources; propagate and raise awareness of resource protection and sustainable development of aquatic products to the people. At Trang Vinh Lake, village 6, Hai Tien commune (Mong Cai), delegates, together with people and students, released 80,000 freshwater fish into Trang Vinh Lake. At Ghenh Vo port area, Quang Ha town (Hai Ha), delegates and people also released 268,000 saltwater fish, including 250,000 giant tiger prawns, 10,000 crabs, 8,000 grouper and sea bass, and some aquatic species of high economic value. Notably, more than 85% of the number of fish in localities were mobilized from financial contributions from businesses and seed production facilities.

Quang Ninh province is a land rich in potential and geographical advantages for developing the fisheries industry with over 6,100km2 of water surface, sea area, with thousands of large and small islands, many bays, and diverse and rich ecosystems. Quang Ninh fishing grounds are identified as one of the four key fishing grounds of the country with many aquatic species of high economic value. This is an important advantage for Quang Ninh province to develop the fisheries industry in a sustainable direction, associated with protecting the marine environment.

In order to develop sustainable aquaculture, on January 30, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 22/KH-UBND on implementing solutions to strengthen management and sustainable development of marine aquaculture in Quang Ninh province in 2024 in conjunction with Directive No. 13-CT/TU dated August 10, 2021 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee. In particular, it proposed solutions to exploit and use the potential of marine aquaculture water surface reasonably, serving the restructuring of the fisheries sector on the basis of balancing exploitation and aquaculture in a reasonable, effective and sustainable manner. Quang Ninh has also developed a Project for sustainable development of the fisheries economy in Quang Ninh province to 2030 to develop aquaculture as a key industry, in which safe and scientific farming areas are arranged and organized in accordance with the planning; attracting investment, raising awareness of organizations and individuals about the role of marine economy and environmental protection in aquaculture. Along with that, the province also resolutely implements solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing associated with exploitation management, protection of aquatic resources, environmental protection in fisheries activities; paying attention to protecting and regenerating aquatic resources, especially mobilizing social resources to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in 2024, the whole province released more than 5.95 million aquatic breeds of all kinds into the natural environment, an increase of 45% over the same period. Of which, 5.68 million were tiger prawns and more than 270,000 were fish of all kinds. Nearly 85% of the released breeds were mobilized from socialized sources.

In 2025, the whole province will release more than 6.95 million shrimp and fish fry of all kinds into the natural environment to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the Vietnam Fisheries Industry Tradition Day (April 1, 1959 - April 1, 2025), of which the number of fry released from socialized sources will reach 87.2%.

The activity of releasing fishery resources to regenerate aquatic resources is of great significance in the restoration and regeneration of aquatic resources, especially endangered and rare aquatic species; at the same time, it contributes to environmental protection, ecological balance, and raising awareness among officials and people about the significance and benefits of regenerating, protecting and developing local aquatic resources. Mobilizing social resources to supplement and regenerate aquatic resources contributes to the sustainable development of the Quang Ninh fisheries industry.
