Opening of the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament

The first match of the Northern qualifying round was the clash between Dai Nam University and the runner-up, Thuy Loi University. Last season, Dai Nam University came very close to a ticket to the final round when they held Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports to a 3-3 draw in the play-off (losing on penalties).

However, on the opening day of the northern qualifying round, the host Thuy Loi did not let any surprises happen. With many good players such as Nguyen Hoang Danh, Tran Duc Hoan, Bui Xuan Truong, Tran Bao Trung, Thuy Loi University put pressure on their opponent Dai Nam.

After a fierce attack in the first half, coach Vu Van Trung's players took advantage of their opponents' mistakes to score the opening goal thanks to Hoang Danh. Number 11 ran smartly, then finished with a tricky left foot shot to open the score. The home team continued to put pressure and scored 2 more goals thanks to Xuan Truong, ending the first half with a score of 3-0.

Despite the overwhelming advantage, the team from the University of Water Resources did not stop, but continued to attack to score more goals in the second half. Under the pressure from coach Vu Van Trung's students, the inexperienced defense with a squad of players mainly in their first and second years of the Dai Nam University team could not withstand.

What the away team only managed to score was a consolation goal thanks to Nguyen Duc Anh's close-range tap-in, before Duc Hoan (double) and Tung Duong scored three more goals, helping the home team, Thuy Loi University, end the opening match with a resounding 6-1 victory.

Defeating Dai Nam University, Thuy Loi University temporarily rose to the top of Group A with 3 points, goal difference +5. In the next round of Group A, Dai Nam University will compete with Dong A University of Technology at 2:00 p.m. on January 2.
