Urgently fix the railway damage in Sa Lung section

This afternoon, October 28, Mr. Le Hong Hai, Director of Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company, said that due to the impact of storm No. 6 causing heavy rain and floodwaters, the North-South railway section of more than 1.3 km (from km 587+680 to km 589+00) in the Sa Lung - Tien An section, passing through Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province was severely damaged, including 2 long damaged sections. "The floodwaters were so large that the entire stone foundation of the railway was washed away, solidified, and the railway was moved downstream, the farthest section was 3 - 3.9 m from the center of the road," Mr. Hai said.

According to Mr. Hai, to fix the problem, from 4:00 a.m. on October 28, Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company mobilized 120 officers, workers and 6 machinery vehicles to the scene to urgently handle the situation.

According to records at the damaged railway location, the stone foundation was completely washed away by floodwaters, causing the rails to shift and bend. In some other locations, many sleepers were pushed closer together by floodwaters. In some sections, water eroded into the ground, creating deep holes. Floodwaters also swept cassava plants, duckweed, and weeds onto the railway.

The immediate solution is to pull the rails back to their original position and repair them to ensure the train can be open to traffic as early as 3 p.m. on October 29. To achieve this goal, workers will work in 3 shifts. During the troubleshooting period, train passengers will be transferred from Dong Hoi station ( Quang Binh ) to Dong Ha station (Quang Tri) and vice versa to continue their journey.

Previously, on the evening of October 27, the impact of storm No. 6 caused floods and landslides on the railway, so the industry decided to close the road to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.
