That is the content of the official dispatch of the Ministry of Construction sent to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province regarding investment in expanding Phu Quoc airport to ensure facilities to serve the APEC Summit Week 2027.

The Ministry of Construction said that in early March 2025, the ministry received official dispatches from the Government Office conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to the ministry to consider and resolve the proposal of Lien Thai Binh Duong Import-Export Company Limited and Sun Group Joint Stock Company to participate in investing in expanding Phu Quoc airport.

On March 10, the Government Standing Committee also concluded that "the People's Committee of Kien Giang province is the competent state agency to call for and select investment forms, including public-private partnerships, to implement and ensure facilities to serve the APEC 2027 Summit Week".

Implementing the direction of the Government Standing Committee, the Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to direct units to urgently research and implement procedures to submit for approval the investment policy for the Phu Quoc airport expansion project under the public-private partnership method.

During the implementation process, it is recommended that the People's Committee of Kien Giang province closely coordinate with the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance to study and propose a plan to transfer aviation infrastructure assets to the province for management to implement the project.

Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee considers and resolves petitions of interested investors and organizes investor selection according to current regulations.

The Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to study, implement, and ensure the progress of the Phu Quoc airport expansion project to serve the APEC Summit Week 2027.

According to the Phu Quoc airport expansion plan proposed by the Civil Aviation Authority for approval by the Ministry of Construction, to increase the capacity of Phu Quoc airport in the 2021-2030 period to 10 million passengers/year instead of the current 4 million passengers/year, it is necessary to upgrade and extend the existing runway from 3,000m x 45m to 3,300m x 45m.

At the same time, the second runway is planned to be 3,300m x 45m in size and two more passenger terminals will be built, more taxiways will be invested, and the aircraft parking lot will be expanded to increase the capacity of Phu Quoc airport to 18 million passengers/year by 2050.

Recently, in addition to the Vietnam Airports Corporation - ACV proposing an investment plan to upgrade Phu Quoc airport, the Pacific International Import Export Company Limited and Sun Group also proposed that the Government participate in investing in expanding this airport.
