Ga crow sticky rice variety is recognized as a 4-star OCOP product in 2022.
Ga crow sticky rice was cultivated in My Lung commune (old) before 1960, and has now become a local specialty. With the characteristics of being easy to grow, suitable for climate conditions, soil and farming practices, this rice variety brings higher economic efficiency than many other types of sticky rice. In recent years, the cultivated area in Son Luong commune has been stable at about 100 - 110 hectares/crop, with a yield of 4 tons/ha; the product is mainly consumed through the My Lung Ga crow sticky rice production cooperative and retail.
In particular, the Ga crow sticky rice product is being implemented in a state-level science and technology project on "Registration for protection and management of geographical indications", contributing to raising the brand of Phu Tho's specialty sticky rice. However, the production process still faces many difficulties: The varieties are mainly preserved by the people themselves; the production area has not been centrally planned; farming techniques are still traditional; pest control is not uniform; traceability and commercialization of products are still limited.
Households and cooperatives requested support in applying science and technology, forming concentrated planting areas, maintaining OCOP and ISO certifications; and upgrading machinery and equipment for production.
The Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection surveyed the Ga crow sticky rice variety in Son Luong commune.
The survey is an important basis for the provincial Department of Agriculture to propose solutions to preserve and sustainably develop the Ga crow sticky rice variety, turning the product into a strong brand, contributing to increasing income for local farmers.
