In addition to rubber and coffee trees, ethnic minorities in Ho Moong commune are boldly investing in planting durian trees.

Returning to Ho Moong commune, Sa Thay district in the harsh sunlight of the dry season in the Central Highlands, we felt the changes of this land. On the hills of coffee, rubber, and fruit trees, ethnic minorities are still enthusiastically working, taking care of and cultivating with their own hands, hoping for a more prosperous life thanks to these plants.

Mr. A Kuong, Village Chief, a prestigious person of Dak Wok village, shared: The village has 377 households, mainly of the Ba Na ethnic group. Previously, people did not know how to grow coffee and rubber trees, and life was very difficult. Since the Party and the State supported and promoted and encouraged people to change their crop structure, their lives have changed. The whole village has more than 200 hectares of coffee and more than 300 hectares of rubber. Currently, many households are growing durian and macadamia trees. Thanks to stable income, the number of poor households in the village has gradually decreased, now only 16 households.

Ho Moong Commune has 84.6% of the population being ethnic minorities. Thanks to investment resources from the National Target Programs, roads, electricity, schools, and stations have been gradually invested and completed. Currently, the commune has achieved 13/19 criteria for new rural construction; average income per capita reached 42 million VND/person/year; the poverty rate has decreased to less than 10%.

"The most gratifying thing is that ethnic minorities have changed their thinking, their way of doing things, and have the desire to improve their lives," said Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Moong commune.
