As the area most seriously affected by erosion in over a decade, the coastline from the river mouth to Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa has now lost its entire beachfront in many sections due to the need to build a solid embankment to stop the erosion.

Along the coastline, the easily seen landscape is the hard embankment constructions of local authorities interspersed with stone embankment constructions at resorts to "save themselves" from the fierce waves.
On this coastal section, there have been many embankment projects implemented by enterprises such as: 700m embankment at Vinpearl Hotel (built in 2012), 450m embankment at Golden Sand Resort & Spa (2013), 370m embankment at Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa (2014), 320m embankment at Sunrise Premium Resort Hoi An (2016)... However, this is only a temporary solution.

Losing the beach has greatly affected the operations and attraction of tourists at the resorts. Even the Golden Sand Resort & Spa has been abandoned for a long time due to deep sea erosion despite the construction of stone embankments.

According to Mr. Hervé Conan - Director of AFD Vietnam, through studying the evolution of the coastline in this area during the period 1984 - 2022, experts have noticed a huge change in the Cua Dai coastline, specifically the sand edge of the coastline from the river mouth to the north, several kilometers long, has almost completely disappeared.

Not only losing the tourist beach, the "disappearance" of the beach also causes many other damages to Hoi An City. Therefore, the project "Anti-erosion and sustainable protection of Hoi An coast, Quang Nam province" aims to meet the urgent needs of stable housing and economic development of the community, in accordance with the planning and strategic development plan of Hoi An in particular and climate change adaptation in coastal areas of Quang Nam in general.
This project has a total investment of up to 42 million euros (equivalent to more than 982 billion VND) and is expected to start construction in early 2025 and be completed in 2026.

Mr. Vo Van Diem - Director of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Agricultural and Rural Development Works in Quang Nam informed that the project will combine construction protection measures (breakwaters, groins) for the area stretching from the river mouth to Victoria resort and soft solutions based on nature.
At the same time, sacrificial beach nourishment is carried out in the northern extension area (An Bang beach area), contributing to restoring sediment balance, maintaining local coastline and reducing the risk of erosion after construction.
