These coastal erosion locations are located in the area adjacent to the former underground revetment project invested by the former Quang Nam Construction Investment Project Management Board. According to the representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang city, through inspection and field work at the eroded coastal locations, the functional unit determined that these locations are located in the C7 rearing area, which belongs to package 2 of the project to prevent erosion and sustainably protect the Hoi An coast. Up to now, this project has not been implemented, so the situation of coastal erosion due to big waves is serious.
According to Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters on the morning of September 13 at the scene, the landslides continued to slide down, dragging many old casuarina trees down deep, leaving both roots and trunks exposed. This is the current coastline adjacent to and located in the business area of a number of tourism businesses, the coastal erosion has greatly affected business activities and tourist services. Many businesses have also spent their own money to invest in temporarily reinforcing the landslide areas with sandbags.
Wave erosion and climate change have affected the natural beauty of Hoi An’s coastline. To ensure the safety of residents and tourists, local authorities need to promptly implement solutions to reinforce landslide sites, especially before the upcoming storm season.
