On the evening of September 18, speaking with VietNamNet reporters, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province said that the unit had learned that a female teacher at Nam Can Boarding Primary and Secondary School (Nghe An) had abdominal peritoneal cancer and regularly underwent chemotherapy, but had to go on assignment to a school 35km from home.

According to the representative of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, after the incident, the Department requested the Principal to report and explain.

"Regarding the case of being on secondment, the law does not stipulate that teachers who are sick do not have to be on secondment. However, we must take care of teachers who are sick and ill, education needs to be humane," informed the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province.

According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, the Department is reviewing the surplus and shortage of teachers in schools to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to assign sufficient staff, ensuring compliance with regulations.

"In the case of Ms. H, I have directed the principal to grasp the female teacher's wishes, reconsider them, and maybe Ms. H. will not have to go on secondment anymore," added the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province.

As VietNamNet reported, despite having abdominal peritoneal cancer and regularly undergoing chemotherapy, Ms. TTH, a female teacher at Nam Can Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, had to go on a secondment to a school in Huu Kiem commune, 35km from home.

Mr. Lam Nguyen Ngoc, Principal of Nam Can Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, confirmed the above incident and said that Ms. H. had cancer but was still on the list of students sent on secondment according to the decision of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training.

Mr. Ngoc said that Ms. H.'s illness is a special case. Although she has worked at the school for 25 years, she has never been on a secondment.

"The document of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province will consider cases of serious illness. In my understanding, serious illness means terminal cancer. In Ms. H's case, she does not have terminal cancer, so she is still eligible for secondment," said Mr. Ngoc.

According to the principal, Ms. H. was exempted from the previous three times she was considered for secondment. This time, there are two more teachers in the school who also have cancer. If Ms. H. is exempted, it will be necessary to exempt the other two teachers from secondment, which is very difficult.

The principal spoke up about the female teacher with cancer, on a secondment 35km from home. Although she had cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy regularly, the female primary school teacher in Nghe An was still on secondment, 35km from home. The school principal said that Ms. H. was not in the final stage of cancer.
