China's Harbin Ice Sculptures are famous for their crystal clear, foam-free quality, due to their exploitation in the special waters of the Songhua River.
Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang province in northeastern China. The city grew from a small rural settlement on the Songhua River to become one of the largest cities in northeastern China in 1898 thanks to the China Eastern Railway project.
With an average annual temperature of 4.25°C and an extreme low of -42.6°C, Harbin is nicknamed the "Ice City" for its thriving winter tourism industry, notably its annual ice and snow festival. Ice and snow sculptures are the art of ice sculptures, which, when displayed, are combined with lights to create a magical, shimmering beauty.
