On June 29, Midu and her husband held a party to celebrate their first wedding anniversary at the beach in Ho Chi Minh City. In the presence of close friends, businessman Minh Dat unexpectedly gave his wife two secret gift boxes.
Inside the mystery box were two Hermès bags. One was beige, made from soft, scratch-resistant Togo leather, measuring approximately 30-35 cm, with a classic elegance. The other was made from dark blue Epsom leather, with a sturdy, modern texture.
Both are mid-sized Birkins, popular on the market. The resale price of each ranges from 20,000 to 30,000 USD (about 521-781 million VND), depending on the material and version.

In fact, historically, the iconic Hermès Birkin handbag began not in a design studio, but on a night flight from Paris (France) to London (UK) in 1983.
A chance meeting between actress Jane Birkin and Mr. Jean-Louis Dumas - the artistic director and CEO of Hermès at that time - laid the foundation for the birth of one of the most prestigious bags in the world .
In first class, Jane Birkin suddenly dropped the woven basket she was carrying, causing everything inside, including a Hermès-branded notebook, to fly in front of Dumas.
After helping her collect them, Mr. Dumas chatted with her and suggested that she needed a more streamlined bag. The actress shared that she always had difficulty finding a bag that was spacious, secure, and still elegant for busy women like her.

Listening to those shares, Dumas immediately sketched the first idea of the Birkin bag on the anti-sickness paper bag of the flight.
A year later, in 1984, the first Birkin bag was officially launched by Hermès. It quickly attracted attention thanks to its slim, highly practical design and the characteristic clasp that ensures the safety of personal luggage when traveling.
The first Hermès Birkin bag was 40cm in size, used by Jane Birkin herself and personalized with stickers. At that time, it sold for about 2,000 USD (52 million VND).
In 2011, the original version owned by the actress was auctioned off and raised over $162,000. All proceeds were donated to earthquake relief efforts in Japan.
Today, Hermès Birkin bags come in a variety of sizes (from 25cm to 40cm), leathers, and limited editions.
Special models such as the Cargo Birkin or the handmade picnic bag with wicker style and leather details are inspired by the original prototype, recalling the free spirit of Jane Birkin while also honoring Hermès' renowned craftsmanship.

Throughout its development, Hermès artisans have created more than 250 different colors. The distinctive color palette features luxurious neutral tones, requiring complex blending techniques, demonstrating the master craftsmanship and refined aesthetic taste of the French fashion house.
This year, Hermès’ Birkin bag has seen another price adjustment. Since its debut in 1984, the price of the iconic bag has been steadily climbing, but the average annual growth over the past four decades has been around 5%.
With recent price adjustments, especially in the last 5 years, many experts believe that the Hermès Birkin 30 made from Togo leather can definitely surpass the $20,000 mark in the near future. If Hermès maintains a price increase rate of about 10% per year, this number can become a reality in less than 5 years.
Once considered a symbol of the pinnacle of fashion with a price tag of around $12,000 (VND 313 million), high-end leather bags now seem to be approaching a new level.
This adjustment further highlights the ever-rising value of two of the most popular Hermès Birkin models – the Birkin 25 and Birkin 30 – especially when using Togo leather, known for its durability and classic beauty.
With the current trend, fashion lovers probably won't be surprised if this iconic bag hits $20,000 (original price) in the near future.
