Lost in Giang Phong's 'Da Lat Street'

At the Dalat Cadasa Resort exhibition space (16 Tran Hung Dao, Da Lat City), artist Giang Phong introduced 30 works painted with acrylic and oil paint on canvas. Each painting recreates a scene of Da Lat past and present, poetic and peaceful. The works are drawn through the author's lens, expressing his love for the city of thousands of flowers: ancient villas, every street corner, townhouses in Da Lat today, pagodas, churches...

Each painting is a feeling, a memory, a reason, a personal story that has been and is connecting Giang Phong with the past and his worries, experiences and reality.

If anyone has ever seen his paintings, they will surely easily recognize that each work bears Giang Phong's mark; a distinct style. The subjects he chooses are often townhouses and landscapes with bright, shimmering tones...

The colors and scenery in his paintings often do not follow nature.

He likes contrasts, light and dark, day and night, and opposing colors to bring into his works. That is why the colors and landscapes in his paintings often do not follow nature. The sky can be purple, the trees can be red, the river can be yellow, the fields can be red plums… To him, all of those things are unimportant, as long as they satisfy his “thirst for color”.

During his time living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Giang Phong studied decorative arts with painter Chau Ngoc Lieu, painter Le Thanh, painter Uyen Huy (Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association). In addition to painting, Giang Phong is also a calligrapher, photographer and has worked as a reporter for Giac Ngo Newspaper and a permanent collaborator for Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper. From 2000 to present, painter Giang Phong has participated in 12 exhibitions (calligraphy and painting). Regarding calligraphy alone, he has had 4 solo exhibitions, and regarding painting, he has just had his first solo exhibition with Da Lat Pho (taking place from December 12 to 21, 2024).
