2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship schedule on September 12 - Graphics: AN BINH
This is also the only match taking place on the opening day of the 2025 Men's Volleyball World Championship. This is quite strange, because it is rare for a volleyball tournament to only hold one match on the opening day. At the previous Women's Volleyball World Championship in Thailand, there were 7 matches taking place on the first day.
Even the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has created a lot of confusion in announcing the match time. Initially, the FIVB Volleyball World website set the start time for the match between the Philippines and Tunisia at 4:30 p.m. (Vietnam time). Then they changed it to 5 p.m. but now it has changed it to 6 p.m.
But scheduling issues aside, the Philippines-Tunisia match is of special significance. It marks the return of the Men's Volleyball World Championship, which features a host of strong teams and star players.
As for the Philippines, this is also the first time they have won the right to participate in this playground. Of course, it also comes from the fact that they were chosen as the host so they have a default place in the tournament.
But with its infrastructure investment and its bid to host the tournament, the Philippines is somewhat deserving of this ticket. However, the Southeast Asian representative also needs to prepare mentally for heavy defeats.
The Philippine men's volleyball team is currently ranked 82nd in the world, much lower than Southeast Asian teams that are not participating in the tournament such as Indonesia (51st), Thailand (58th), and Vietnam (59th).
Meanwhile, Tunisia is ranked 43rd. Obviously, the Philippines is quite weak compared to the general level. Therefore, it is difficult to expect them to cause a surprise in this year's tournament.
* The competition schedule may change depending on the arrangement of the tournament organizer.
