Latest school schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City

It is expected that students in grades 1, 9, and 12 in Ho Chi Minh City will return to school on August 18, earlier than the general schedule of the whole country.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just submitted to the City People's Committee a plan for the 2025-2026 school year, in which it proposed that grades 1, 9, and 12 will return to school on August 18. The remaining grades will return to school on August 25. The opening ceremony will be held on the morning of September 5.

Thus, it is possible that students in Ho Chi Minh City will return to school 4 days earlier than the national schedule issued by the Ministry of Education and Training .

The 2025-2026 school year timetable applies to preschool , general education and continuing education nationwide. Accordingly, the earliest school start date is 1 week before the opening day. Grades 1, 9 and 12 will start school 2 weeks before the opening day.

The opening ceremony will be held on September 5, 2025; the first semester will end before January 18, 2026, and the program will be completed and the school year will end before May 31, 2026.

The recognition of completion of primary school program and recognition of graduation from secondary school will be carried out before June 30, 2026.

Enrollment for the first grade is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2026; the 2026 high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place on June 11-12, 2026. Other national exams are organized according to the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

After the merger, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest educational scale in the country with more than 2.5 million students.
