Consecutive cases of teenagers having their arms and legs crushed and being hospitalized due to homemade fireworks

On November 27, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital announced that it had just admitted three teenagers with serious injuries from using homemade fireworks.

That is the case of NK (13 years old) and NTA (14 years old), cousins, residing in Vinh Phuc , hospitalized with wounds on both hands soaked with blood. In which, the wounds on both hands of patient NK were very severe, the first fingers of both hands were crushed, and the metacarpal joints were broken open.

During the first aid process for the patient, the trauma doctors consulted with a plastic surgeon because the crushed wound was so severe that it was impossible to preserve the first finger of both hands of the patient.

Accordingly, the doctor performed surgery to amputate the first finger of both hands, trying to preserve the remaining fingers. Currently, on the third day after surgery, the patient's condition is stable, and the wounds are dry.

The remaining case is GB (12 years old, residing in Hung Yen ) who was hospitalized with a fracture of the first metacarpal bone of the left hand and a wound on the left lower leg, which was debrided and treated for skin peeling.

Patients need to practice rehabilitation, returning the hand to its original function is the goal, trying to recover as much as possible.

At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, every Tet holiday and the period before Tet, the number of accidents caused by homemade firecrackers always increases significantly.

The main causes often come from buying illegal fireworks of unknown origin, accessing unofficial information on social networks and making fireworks yourself.

These accidents not only cause serious physical injuries but also leave serious psychological and financial consequences for the patient and their family.

Not only is this illegal, it also carries the potential risk of causing serious injury, even death.

People need to raise awareness, absolutely not buy, sell or use illegal fireworks and need to guide their children to stay away from these dangerous actions to protect their own safety and the community.
