To expand the territory and build a prosperous nation, Lac Long Quan took 50 of his children down to the sea, while Au Co and 49 of her children went up to the highlands to reclaim the wasteland and expand the territory. The eldest son stayed behind to become King, called Hung Vuong, and named the country Van Lang. For 18 generations, all were called Hung Vuong.
