What LinkedIn Can Do for Journalists

The social network's latest effort is "collaborative articles." The platform launched collaborative articles in March. These articles are initially generated by AI and then edited by a team of editors.

Articles cover a wide range of professional topics, such as soothing public speaking anxiety, managing burnout, and more. And LinkedIn wants journalists to participate in this related articles area.

“Journalists and media professionals bring deep knowledge and expertise on a wide range of topics to the LinkedIn community,” said Julien Wettstein, head of editorial at LinkedIn.

By joining the program, journalists can grow their following and reach new audiences, LinkedIn said.

People can earn the pale yellow community "Top Voice" badge if they become one of the top contributors to a particular skill or topic.

Badges expire after 60 days if the participant fails to comply with the rules. Journalists can have multiple badges for different topics, all of which must comply with LinkedIn's rules.

Juliana Chan is a Singaporean media entrepreneur, formerly a biomedical researcher with a PhD in Biology from MIT. She is currently the founder and CEO of Wildtype Media Group, Asia's leading STEM-focused media company and publisher of Science Asia.

In November 2020, she was among 16 professionals selected to join the inaugural cohort of “Top Voices” in Singapore. Chan, who has 68,000 followers on LinkedIn, said being a “Top Voice” would be attractive to potential clients and give her more confidence in her abilities.

“LinkedIn's editorial strategy is to reward content creators who invest a significant amount of time, effort, and energy into posting quality content on their platform,” Chan says.

"I'm excited to see LinkedIn finding more and more ways to reward their content creators. If LinkedIn treats creators well, we'll all respond with renewed enthusiasm and invest more time creating content for the platform. It's a give and take for you."
