After the fourth round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Syrian team has successfully participated in the most prestigious tournament in the continent. With a 3-0 victory right on Myanmar's field, they have won 12 absolute points after four matches, thereby officially qualifying two matches early.
In the decisive match at the Thuwanna Stadium, Syria struggled for much of the match, before bursting into life late on. Late goals from Pablo Sabbag in the 80th and 85th minutes and Mohammad Al Salkhadi in the 87th minute sealed a 3-0 win.
This result helps coach Jose Lana's team firmly hold the top spot in Group E, 6 points ahead of second-placed Myanmar.
With the advantage of head-to-head record against their Southeast Asian opponents, having won 5-1 and 3-0 after two matches, Syria can rest assured without worrying about the results of the remaining two matches against Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Previously, Syria defeated Pakistan (2-0) and Afghanistan (1-0) respectively.
This is the 8th time the Syrian team has participated in an Asian Cup and the third consecutive time they have done so in the 21st century. The team's best achievement was reaching the round of 16 at the 2023 Asian Cup held in Qatar.
The final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup will take place from March 2025 to March 2026, with 24 teams participating. The teams are divided into 6 groups of 4 teams each.
The four teams will compete in a round-robin format, home and away (6 matches). At the end of the final qualifying round, only the group winners of the six groups will qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup.
