Opening the third quarter of 2025 financial reporting season, Vietnam Prosperity Bank ( VPBank ) announced its business results with impressive figures, pre-tax profit reached VND 9,200 billion, up 77% over the same period last year. This is the highest growth rate in the last 15 quarters, showing the strong recovery of this bank after a period of credit stagnation in the first half of the year.
Third quarter bank profits hit record high
In the first 9 months of the year, VPBank's consolidated pre-tax profit reached more than VND 20,396 billion, an increase of 47.1% over the same period in 2024.
With this result, the bank has exceeded the previous year's profit after only 3 quarters, making VPBank one of the private banks with the fastest profit growth rate in the system.
The financial report shows that VPBank's total consolidated assets reached VND1,180 trillion, up 27.5% compared to the beginning of the year, exceeding the set plan. Consolidated credit balance reached nearly VND912 trillion, up 28.4%, more than double the average growth rate of the entire industry.
VPBank's credit growth focused on small and medium-sized enterprises, along with home loans and personal consumption products, with increases of 29.1% and 27.7%, respectively. Many preferential loan packages were launched to help people easily access capital for housing, while private enterprises had more resources to expand production and business.

Many banks and securities companies reported extraordinary profits in the third quarter.
Effective bad debt control
Meanwhile, Nam A Bank continues to attract attention with its breakthrough growth. Pre-tax profit in the third quarter reached more than VND3,800 billion, up 16% over the same period. Total assets by the end of September reached more than VND377,000 billion, up more than VND132,000 billion in just 9 months, a strong increase rarely seen in the mid-range banking group. Both deposits and outstanding credit increased by 20% and 17.8% respectively.
Nam A Bank said that currently more than 98% of the bank's transactions are conducted via digital channels. Cross-border QR payment services with Thailand, Laos and Cambodia have been deployed synchronously, contributing to the expansion of the payment ecosystem in the Southeast Asian region.
Not only the private banking sector, the group of state-owned commercial banks also recorded positive results. The Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development ( Agribank ) said that as of September 30, total capital reached more than VND2.2 million billion, up 10.7% compared to the beginning of the year and completing nearly 96% of the growth plan. Agribank is currently leading the system in terms of market share of residential deposits, with a scale of more than VND1.7 million billion from nearly 18 million customers.
A notable point is that Agribank's bad debt ratio has decreased to 1.19% - the lowest level since the bank implemented phase 1 restructuring in 2013. This is also the lowest ratio among the four state-owned commercial banks, reflecting efforts to control risks and effectively restructure the credit portfolio.

Cross-border QR payment services in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia have been deployed by Nam A Bank.
Not only the banking industry, the securities sector is also having a breakthrough quarter. A series of securities companies such as VPBankS, VIX or SHS have reported a sharp increase in profits. Most recently, Saigon - Hanoi Securities Company (SHS) announced pre-tax profit in the third quarter reached 590 billion VND, an increase of 7.9 times compared to the same period last year. Total assets as of September 30 reached more than 20,000 billion VND, an increase of 57%, thanks to the expansion of financial investment portfolio, margin lending activities and increased equity.
In the first 9 months of the year, SHS achieved pre-tax profit of VND1,379 billion, up 45% and exceeding the 2025 profit plan assigned by the Shareholders' Meeting. As of August, SHS's market capitalization exceeded the USD1 billion mark for the first time, putting the company in the top six securities companies with the largest market capitalization.
