Atalanta officially won the 2023/2024 Europa League after a convincing 3-0 win over Leverkusen in the final match that took place early on May 23. Striker Lookman scored a hat-trick for Atalanta in the 12th, 26th and 75th minutes.
With a hat-trick against the German representative, the Nigerian striker made history in the tournament. Specifically, Lookman is the first African player to score 3 goals in a Europa League final (precursor of the UEFA Cup).
Lookman's hat-trick for Atalanta was the sixth hat-trick scored in a European Cup final. It was also the first hat-trick since Jupp Heynckes scored three for Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1975 UEFA Cup.
