Many tourists have explored Langbiang Mountain in Lam Dong Province on their own, then got lost due to the rugged terrain and bad weather. Authorities confirmed that the lost cases all obtained information through social networks, even though they did not have a specific understanding of the terrain and weather there.

More than 10 tourists lost in 3 months

On October 28, Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park said that since July, 10 tourists have gotten lost on Langbiang Mountain, forcing authorities to search and rescue them.

Authorities found two tourists in the jungle and deep abyss.

On September 29, Lam Dong Provincial Police received a report that two tourists, TTT (27 years old) and MMA (18 years old, both residing in Ho Chi Minh City) got lost while visiting the forest on top of Langbiang.

Afterwards, the Lac Duong District Police, the Lac Duong Town Fire Prevention and Rescue Team, and the Langbiang Tourist Area mobilized forces to search. At around 6 p.m., the two tourists were found in the old forest and deep abyss.

Previously, a group of 3 tourists from Ho Chi Minh City went to Langbiang Mountain to explore but got lost in the jungle. Late that same day, after many hours of trekking through the jungle, the authorities found the group of tourists in a state of panic, soaked, hungry and cold.

At the end of August, a group of 5 students in Ho Chi Minh City rode motorbikes to the trail leading to Langbiang Mountain, then abandoned their motorbikes and went exploring on foot. The group then entered a dense forest area, about 5km from the starting point. At 9pm the same day, the 5 students were found by the authorities and brought out of the forest safely.

Spontaneous discovery through social media sites

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Nguyen - an officer of Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, tourists often get information about exploring Langbiang Mountain through forums, groups, and social networking sites. Many people then explore the mountain without understanding the specific terrain and weather here.

The trail has posted signs prohibiting walking and climbing... however tourists still ignore them.

According to Mr. Nguyen, from April to November (during the rainy season), the Langbiang mountain area is often sunny in the morning and rainy in the afternoon. "Many tourists come to the mountain at noon, feeling the sunny weather so they freely explore. In the afternoon, thick fog appears so most tourists lose their way and get lost," Mr. Nguyen shared.

Mr. Nguyen added that to prevent tourists from getting lost while exploring Langbiang Mountain on their own, the unit has coordinated with the authorities to place warning signs and prohibition boards on trails leading into the forest; patrol, promptly detect and prevent cases of tourists spontaneously climbing the mountain to ensure safety.

Langbiang Mountain in Lac Duong district, Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, has an altitude of 2,167m above sea level.

Talking to Tien Phong reporter , Mr. Phan Duc Hung - Director of Langbiang Tourist Area, the unit organizing the Langbiang mountain exploration route - said that Lam Dong province is in the rainy season, foggy in the afternoon so the unit has temporarily suspended the mountain exploration trekking activities. In addition, the mountain trail has some dangerous landslides and fallen trees so the unit has temporarily suspended the Langbiang peak trekking route.

"When the trail is safe and the weather is nice, we organize trips for guests to explore the mountain and arrange a team of guides to ensure safety," said Mr. Hung.

Langbiang tourist area is temporarily suspending mountain trekking activities due to the rainy season.

According to Mr. Hung, Langbiang Mountain has beautiful scenery and diverse flora and fauna. However, this mountain also has potential dangers that can cause accidents such as steep slopes, slippery roads, fallen trees, etc. Therefore, visitors must be in good health and have specialized equipment. In particular, they must grasp information about the weather and terrain.
