Demonstration of CP 511S hybrid corn variety with insect resistance and high yield in Ham Thanh

The demonstration model of growing hybrid corn with single F1 hybrid corn variety with modified gene CP511S in Ham Thanh commune (Lam Dong) shows more potential yield than other commercial corn seeds.

On September 26, at hamlet 1 Ham Can, Ham Thanh commune ( Lam Dong ), the Mountainous Service Center coordinated with local units, stores, and agents to organize a field workshop to introduce a demonstration model of the genetically modified F1 single hybrid corn variety CP 511S.

Attending the workshop were leaders of the Provincial Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, the Board of Directors and professional departments of the Provincial Mountainous Service Center, representatives of the People's Committee of Ham Thanh commune and more than 100 ethnic households that received investment support for advance production of hybrid corn in 2025 in Ham Can and My Thanh villages.

In recent years, local corn production has encountered many difficulties due to pests, especially fall armyworms, while production costs are high and efficiency is low. From the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the demonstration model of CP 511S corn variety was deployed on an area of ​​0.6 ha at Mr. Mang Van Duong's household (Ham Can village 1). The implementation period is 3 months (from June 26 to September 26).

The results showed that the CP 511S single hybrid corn variety has a growing period of 90 - 110 days, with a germination rate of over 95%. The plant grows strongly, has a developed root system, good lodging resistance, large cobs, and a tight shell that helps to limit fruit rot. The seeds are orange-yellow, with a seed separation rate of 81 - 83%, high yield, and good drought tolerance. In particular, this variety is resistant to fall armyworms, stem borers, and armyworms, contributing to reducing pesticide costs.

In addition to its resistance to certain diseases such as fruit rot, large leaf spot, and brown spot, CP511S also exhibits wide adaptability, suitable for many forms of cultivation.

The model implementation aims to help ethnic minorities in the region access new hybrid corn varieties, apply technical advances in production, improve economic efficiency, increase income and contribute to sustainable poverty reduction.
