Man United achieves record revenue despite poor performance

Despite a poor 2024-2025 season, Man United still generated a record revenue of 666.5 million pounds in the financial year ending June 2025.

The financial results show that Man United's revenue increased by 0.7%, or £4.7m, compared to £661.8m in the same period. Chief executive Omar Berrada hailed the result as a testament to the club's "resilience" in a challenging season.

However, the "red devils" still recorded a loss of 33 million pounds. The reason is said to be because the team had to spend 36.6 million pounds on special items in the transformation plan.

This includes the sacking of manager Erik Ten Hag and his staff, along with payments to around 150-200 staff who lost their jobs in the recent round of redundancies. Significantly, this is a significant reduction from the previous year's figure of £113.2m.

“Generating record revenue in such a challenging year demonstrates the resilience that is a hallmark of Manchester United,” said Omar Berrada.

The chief executive also expressed satisfaction with the summer additions to the men’s and women’s first team, and stressed the club was emerging from a period of structural and leadership change with a lean organisation ready to deliver on its sporting and commercial objectives.

Despite missing out on European competition for the first time since the 2014-15 season, United are still expected to post revenues of between £640m and £660m next year.

The financial report also shows specific revenue in the 2024-2025 season:

Broadcast revenue: Down £48.9m to £172.9m, mainly due to the men's team only competing in the Europa League.

Commercial revenue: £333.3 million (record).

Matchday revenue : £160.3m (record).

Man United are having a difficult start to the 2025-2026 season, having only picked up four points after four Premier League games. Coach Ruben Amorim is being heavily criticised for his coaching philosophy at Man United.
