You should choose a suitable moisturizer, apply the cream right after bathing, and limit soaking in hot water for long periods of time to keep your skin healthy and smooth.
Dr. Do Kim Anh, Department of High-Tech Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, said that skin moisture directly affects the appearance of the skin. In winter, when the weather is dry, the skin often becomes dehydrated, flaky, irritated, and inflamed. Rough skin causes pain, itching, or more seriously, cracked skin, causing deep cracks that can bleed. Moisturizing helps control and prevent recurrence of atopic dermatitis, helps reduce inflammation, and reduces itching.
According to doctors, facial moisturizers are different from body moisturizers, so you should not use them haphazardly. First, you need to choose a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type, the location of the damage, and the level of dryness.
People with atopic dermatitis should use moisturizer at least two to three times a day, increasing the number of times if the skin is very dry. The number of times you apply moisturizer should be divided evenly throughout the day to maintain the skin protection effect of the moisturizer. You can apply moisturizer according to your own needs, such as when you feel your skin is dry and needs moisturizing.
Apply moisturizer within three to five minutes of bathing to maintain moisture in the skin, help lock in moisture and increase the effectiveness of the product. Do not apply moisturizer if your skin is not clean. Choose an alcohol-free moisturizer and use a soap-free cleanser to ensure that the natural oils on the skin are maintained.
In the acute phase, people with atopic dermatitis should use a combination of topical corticosteroids to quickly reduce symptoms. Applying moisturizer before applying corticosteroids helps increase the skin's ability to absorb the drug.
The amount of moisturizer used for adults is 500-600g/week, for children 250-300g/week. In addition, depending on different skin conditions, the doctor may prescribe increased or decreased moisturizer use.
You should use it daily even if there are no symptoms to prevent recurrence because the skin of people with atopic dermatitis is very sensitive and prone to recurrence due to factors from the surrounding environment.
In addition, you should supplement and drink enough water to prevent dry skin. Maintain a nutritious diet, especially foods containing lots of vitamins from vegetables and fruits that are beneficial for skin regeneration. Avoid drinks containing caffeine that cause dehydration from the inside and accelerate the skin aging process.
In winter, you should shower and limit soaking in hot water. If possible, you should use a humidifier to maintain humidity in the air in winter and in dry weather. Avoid rubbing or scratching if the skin shows signs of itching to avoid damaging the skin, avoiding dermatitis and many other skin diseases. Avoid wearing clothes made of materials such as wool, felt or nylon.
