Microsoft plans to cut thousands of jobs, focus on investing in AI

Microsoft continues to cut thousands of jobs and step up investments in AI to solidify its leadership as businesses across industries accelerate the integration of AI into products and services.

According to Bloomberg news agency, technology corporation Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs, especially in the business division, in the process of streamlining the workforce and focusing on investment in artificial intelligence (AI).

This round of layoffs follows Microsoft's previous round of job cuts in May 2025, which affected about 6,000 employees.

Microsoft has been ramping up its investments in AI to cement its leadership as businesses across industries accelerate the integration of AI into their products and services to maintain a competitive edge.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has said that the deployment of generative AI and agents will reduce the total number of employees across the company in the next few years.

The report also said that the staff cuts will not be limited to the business unit and the timing may change. As of June 2024, Microsoft has 228,000 employees./.
