Microsoft is about to integrate AI Copilot into Windows 10

Microsoft rolled out its new AI assistant for Windows earlier this year with the Windows 11 version 23H2 release, adding a new Microsoft Copilot button directly to the taskbar. Microsoft brought its Copilot to Windows 11 users, but there are still a large number of PC users using the older Windows 10 operating system who haven't seen any of Microsoft's recent AI additions.

Microsoft plans to integrate AI Copilot into Windows 10

According to Windows Central , Microsoft is planning to bring Microsoft Copilot to Windows 10 in an upcoming update. Just like Windows 11, the update for Windows 10 will place a Copilot button directly on the Windows 10 taskbar, which will open the same Copilot experience as on Windows 11.

The main reason behind this decision is market share. Windows 10 is still used on around 1 billion monthly active devices, compared to 400 million on Windows 11. Microsoft sees this 1 billion user base as an untapped market for Copilot expansion, and so adding Copilot to Windows 10 is a necessary step for the company.

Microsoft will also have an easier time convincing developers that they should build plugins for Copilot when it can say that Copilot is available on 1.4 billion devices, compared to just 400 million on Windows 11. The more Copilot users there are, the more reason developers have to write code for Copilot rather than let competitors do it.

According to Windows Central , the Copilot experience and capabilities on Windows 10 and Windows 11 will be nearly identical, including plugin compatibility on both versions of the operating system.
