The West in flood season

Every year, from July to October of the lunar calendar (ie around August to November of the solar calendar), the water from the upper Mekong River flows into the Cua Long River Delta, especially in the provinces of Dong Thap, An Giang , and Tu Giac Long Xuyen, creating a sea of ​​water. At this time, the green fields of the past have become vast waves with extremely beautiful scenes. This is also the season of bumper shrimp and fish for the people of the West who work hard all year round.

The flood season, the sad season, the happy season of the people of the West - a land that does not have majestic mountains like other lands, they only have a generous and open heart when distilling what the water has to create the cultural value of an entire land.

Each house in the middle of the vast water, each small boat fishing in the sunset gradually passed through the car window on the journey connecting the heritages of the river delta region.

We went upstream of the flood to Thap Muoi to immerse ourselves in the immense lotus scent, then hurried to catch the Tan Chau ferry to the upstream land of An Giang - Dong Thap ; to Chau Doc amidst the vast rice fields in their prime; stopped by Tri Ton, Tinh Bien to be quiet under the shade of palm trees and hoarse in the moments of cheering on the Ro Pagoda bull race; then admired the way Khmer women weaved the fabrics or the deep eyes of Cham girls in Da Phuoc.

Not only does the flood season bring new life to the farmers here, it also brings new life to the lotus, water lily, reed grass, and green cajuput forests. When the flood season comes, the West seems to have a new coat. This is also the season when birds fly back to make nests in large flocks. In other words, this is the time when everything in this land grows and flourishes.

Depending on the climate each year, the water level will come early or late. The flood season in the West provides many wonderful rustic specialties: Hastily picked sesbania flowers can also be processed with linh fish into a dish of linh fish cooked in sour soup with sesban flowers, then dried snakehead fish or boiled mixed vegetables, field crab claws...

Every year, from mid-summer, storms and tropical depressions cause heavy rain in the upper reaches of the Mekong River, causing the water level of the Mekong River to rise rapidly. When flowing downstream, a part of the water flows into the Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia, most of it flows through the two branches of the Tien and Hau rivers, rushing across the border into Vietnam and flowing into the East Sea through many mouths.

A large area at the headwaters of the Mekong River has low-lying terrain, so the water overflowed its banks, inundating canals, lakes, ponds, and fields for a long time (about several months).

As for Tra Su Melaleuca forest, you will be taken by motorboat deep into the middle of the mysterious green Melaleuca forest. This is the most typical and unique natural habitat of the flooded ecosystem. What could be more enjoyable than sitting on a motorboat through the forest to see the sparkling white Melaleuca flowers, the green duckweed and flocks of rare birds just a few meters away.
