(CLO) On Monday, the US announced the addition of six Chinese companies to the export embargo list, accusing these companies of supporting Iran's weapons programs.
Companies are placed on the trade embargo list, known as the Entity List, when Washington judges them to be a threat to US national security or foreign policy. Once on the list, companies cannot receive US goods and technology without special licenses, which are almost certain to be denied.

"We will continue to cut off entities that seek to circumvent our controls and act contrary to U.S. national security," said Thea D. Rozman Kendler, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration.
The US Department of Commerce has added Beijing Moreget Creative Technology Co. to its list of companies for purchasing US-origin items related to aviation simulation technology, supporting China's military modernization.
A Hong Kong-based company, Small Leopard Electronics, along with its closely affiliated company Shenzhen Dragonfly Supply Chain, was also added to the list because Small Leopard repeatedly engaged in "delays and evasiveness" in providing information to the US Department of Commerce.
Three other companies, Detail Technology, L-Tong Electronic Technology and Shenzhen Jiachuang Weiye Technology, were accused of purchasing or attempting to purchase US-origin items for Iran's weapons programs.
China has repeatedly called on the US to stop targeting its companies, calling it "discriminatory and unfair".
A total of 26 entities were added to the list on Monday, including one from Egypt, 16 from Pakistan and three from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Two companies were removed from the list, including China's Hefei Bitland Information Technology Co., which has been dissolved, according to the US Commerce Department. Canada's Sandvine, a supplier of networking equipment, was also removed from the list.
