On September 11, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of My Chanh Hoa and An Hiep communes, Vinh Long province to organize a ceremony to receive the certificate of recognition as Vietnam Heritage Trees for 5 ancient trees including: 3 banyan trees (si trees) belonging to Hai Van Farm - Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary (My Chanh Hoa commune) and 2 banyan trees (at Ba temple in Giong Sao hamlet and Ba temple in Giong Trom hamlet in An Hiep commune).

At the ceremony, Mr. Le Chi Linh, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, said that the selection, recognition and honor of ancient banyan trees and banyan trees aims to preserve valuable genetic resources in biodiversity conservation, protect typical environmental landscapes and introduce the richness and diversity of Vietnam's flora to international friends; thereby directly promoting and enhancing the value of historical and cultural relic sites, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality and other eco-tourism areas of Vinh Long province and the Mekong Delta region.

According to Mr. Tran Phuong Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of My Chanh Hoa Commune, the three banyan trees in the Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary have been around for a long time. According to the results of the actual survey, based on the characteristics of the trunk size, secondary roots, the number and characteristics of secondary roots, and the circumference of the canopy, one tree is determined to be over 200 years old, the other two trees are about over 100 years old.

Three banyan trees recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees bring great value to Vam Ho tourism, specifically Hai Van Educational Ecotourism Limited Liability Company (Hai Van Farm - Vam Ho Bird Sanctuary).

This is not only an attractive destination but also a "living museum" of nature and history. Visitors come here not only to admire the majestic beauty of the tree but also to listen to the stories and legends associated with it, creating a meaningful tourist experience associated with the propaganda of the importance of nature and heritage conservation.

According to the People's Committee of An Hiep Commune, the two banyan trees in the temple yard were planted when the Ba temple in Giong Sao hamlet and Ba temple in Giong Trom hamlet were built. Over the past 100 years, the trees have been associated with many generations of local people.

It is worth mentioning that despite going through two fierce wars and natural disasters, the trees are still green and shady all year round. Honoring the two ancient banyan trees as Vietnam heritage trees is a recognition for the people and local authorities in protecting and caring for the trees and preserving the traditions of the homeland.

At the same time, it raises people's awareness of environmental protection, a matter of profound significance and urgency, especially during a time when climate change is a global threat./.
