The Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) have captured the village of Chunishino, located south of Pokrovsk, and have also established control over the Lazurny district within the city. Ukrainian sources say the Russians are now attacking the Shakhtyorsky, Solnechny and Yuzhny districts. On the Pokrovsk front, as predicted, the fighting is now concentrated in the residential areas of the city, where the fiercest battles are taking place. The Lazurny residential area was the first to be attacked, with Ukrainian troops actively shelling high-rise buildings where Russian troops were hiding; and infantry attacks at the same time.
Ukrainian media also admitted that the Ukrainian army (AFU) has lost control of the Lazurny district and is currently trying to maintain defense in the Shakhtarsky, Solnechny and Yuzhny districts of the city of Pokrovsk. Currently, the Russian army is conducting reconnaissance attacks to probe for weak points in the AFU defense line in the city, before expanding the front into urban areas. RVvoenkory channel said that the RFAF continues to break the "steel wall of Donbass". A turning point in the battle for Pokrovsk is very near. According to the latest information, the RFAF has significantly improved its positions west and southeast of Pokrovsk. The AFU defense line has been penetrated in many places, the Ukrainian army shows signs of collapse, forced to retreat deep into the central area. The Military Summary channel said that the Russian army is tightening the siege around Pokrovsk, turning the city into a giant "boiler". In the west of the city, the RFAF has brought in reinforcements to block one of the logistical supply routes for the Ukrainian army defending the city. RVvoenkor channel added that RFAF is increasing pressure to approach and attack Mirnograd from the north and east. Thus, the two "east - west" wings of RFAF are only about 12km apart, the situation of AFU in the "cauldron" of Pokrovsk - Mirnograd is getting worse.
The AFU 7th Air Assault Corps confirmed, “The RFAF is trying to encircle Pokrovsk and advance towards Mirnograd. The AFU is fighting back with its existing forces. The top priority is to preserve the lives of servicemen and stop the enemy.” The AFU 7th Corps statement clearly hinted at the withdrawal and expected fall of Pokrovsk. North of Pokrovsk, Ukrainian forces continue to lose ground in the Dobropillya area. Attempts to dislodge Russian forces from their positions have failed. Meanwhile, Ukrainian losses in the area are mounting rapidly. Earlier, the AFU General Staff transferred all available reserves to the Pokrovsk front, hoping to eliminate the Russian breakthrough north of the city. This affected the stability of the Ukrainian defense system in other sectors of the front. According to Russian military expert Valery Shiryaev, the past week of fighting in Ukraine has proven that natural and man-made defense barriers are no longer as important as they were at the beginning of the conflict. According to him, the RFAF has successfully crossed three rivers: Nitrius, Bolshoy Zherebets and Volchya.
This suggests that the rivers were not an impenetrable line of defense. Because to the south, on the Novopavlivsk front, Russian troops crossed the Volchya River that same week, without any serious fighting, Mr. Shiryaev emphasized. Mr Shiryaev added that the RFAF had also succeeded in breaking through Ukraine's "New Donbass" defense line, which had cost a lot of money to build. This week, when the RFAF crossed the Volchya River, they also broke through the "New Donbass" defense line. The "new Donbass" defense line was built according to regulations, with fortifications in the rear, 20-30 km apart, along the river basin, along the high points, to create clearance for UAVs, convenient for maneuvering forces. This line is very long, stretching through many areas and many complex roads; Mr. Shiryaev explained. According to Mr. Shiryaev, the successful advance of Russian units is evidence that the AFU is seriously lacking in manpower. This is the reason why the Russian troops are capturing a number of fortified areas of the enemy, without encountering any fierce resistance.
It is worth noting that military analysts from the Kiev government have been reporting on the AFU's troop shortage over the past few months. They admit that some AFU brigades are currently only 40% staffed. Meanwhile, the desertion rate is very high, with at least 200,000 Ukrainian soldiers and officers currently deserting.
