On the afternoon of October 19, the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition Photos of Bozoky Dezso - a Hungarian naval doctor in the early 20th century in Vietnam took place at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum.
This is a special cultural event held to celebrate the official visit to Vietnam of Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover Laszlo.
Displaying precious photos from more than a century ago
The exhibition features about 25 photos taken by Hungarian naval doctor Bozoky Dezso in Vietnam in the early 20th century.
These precious photos were taken more than a century ago, vividly depicting urban scenes, ancient architecture, streets, canals, and the simple lives of people.
Mr. Pham Thanh Kien - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Council - delivered the opening speech.
Mr. Kien said these images capture the mark of time, helping viewers feel the city's continuous development, from its colonial days in the 20th century to becoming a dynamic, creative economic , commercial, cultural, scientific, technological center.

“The official visit of Hungarian National Assembly Speaker Kover Laszlo to Vietnam is an important highlight in the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Hungary, especially in the context of the two countries solemnly celebrating the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
The photo exhibition also demonstrates Vietnam's respect for historical memories and cultural heritage, while opening up a new creative space for artists, researchers, and art lovers from the two countries to share and create more creative inspiration.

Rediscovering memories of old Saigon
The photo exhibition of Bozoky Dezso, a Hungarian naval doctor in the early 20th century in Vietnam, not only demonstrates the strong relationship between the two countries but also strongly affirms that artistic and cultural values always have the power to transcend time and space, connecting people through understanding.
Mr. Lehocz Gabor - Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City - said that the exhibition is not only an opportunity to remember the past but also to look to the future, continuing to strengthen the friendship, cooperation and cultural ties between the two countries.
“In 1909, Bozoky Dezso brought back to Hungary a part of Saigon through images, memories and stories. More than a century later, today we bring that part of the memory back to Vietnam. Because it is your history, your culture, but also our common heritage” - The Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City added.
