World Bank ready to support Vietnam in implementing major projects

On September 7, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received World Bank President Ajay Banga on the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related conferences in Jakarta, Indonesia.

At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Mr. Ajay Banga on being assigned the responsibility of President of the World Bank for the 2023-2028 term; expressed his belief that under Mr. Ajay Banga's leadership, the World Bank will continue to develop strongly and successfully fulfill its missions.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the World Bank's support and assistance to Vietnam in socio-economic development, especially in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, gender equality, development support for remote areas, and agricultural development; affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always attaches importance to and wishes to continue receiving the Bank's active and effective support.

President Ajay Banga expressed his impression of Vietnam's development achievements and highly appreciated ASEAN's role in the current world situation.

Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that the World Bank continue to accompany Vietnam in the development process, especially prioritizing support for Vietnam in terms of capital and experience in four areas: infrastructure development and logistics capacity; energy conversion, green energy development, renewable energy; support for the Mekong Delta in preventing subsidence, landslides, flooding and agricultural development; promoting innovation and digital transformation.

President Banga highly appreciated and shared the strategic orientations proposed by the Prime Minister; affirming that these are priority areas of cooperation to create qualitative changes for Vietnam's development in the next decade. The World Bank is ready to support Vietnam in implementing major projects to realize these goals.
